Before the Internet was a household word, Paula Porter was online. She posted class schedules and homework assignments online while teaching English at Iowa State University in the early '90s. Later, she met Dennis online.

She's has been working onwebsite design since 1995. At Design News Online, where she formerly served as Senior Web Editor, she was involved in Internet product development and online business efforts. Some of her experience includes moving to a database driven site from html, building an industry-specific search engine, assisting in live and taped webcasts, and more recently, working on a trade show and online conference. She has taught several courses on website usability and search engine do's and don'ts.

If you notice this site has a simple design, loads quickly in any browser, and usually involves minimal scrolling. That's some functions of website usability.
